Joan of Arc

(c. 1412-1431): Savior of France

“I would rather die than do what I know to be sin.”

Joan fought in men’s armor on the side of the French in the Hundred Years War, only to be caught by English sympathizers, put on trial, and burnt in 1431, before becoming canonized in 1920.
