Guðríður Þorbjarnardóttir

“I am not skilled in deep learning, nor am I a wise-woman, although Halldis, my foster-mother, taught me, in Iceland, the lore which she called Weird-songs.”

A 10th century Icelandic traveller, she helped settle colonies in Greenland and Newfoundland, later going on pilgrimage to Rome.  Her child was the first European baby born in North America.
