“The Strong Voice of Gandersheim.” A 10th century canoness, ruling over what was essentially a principality of women, she was the first known woman playwright, contributing to the “Ottonian Revolution.” Her plays extol strong young virgins willing to sacrifice themselves for God, as well as “holy harlots” or prostitute saints.
